Health Alert Announcements Chickenpox VirusDear Parents/Guardians:
I would like to inform you that there is one known case of chickenpox at the high school in the 10th grade. Exposure would have been on 9-19-11. Chickenpox is a viral disease and spread by direct contact, droplet transmission, and airborne transmission. The incubation period is 10-21 days after exposure. If you child develops a slight fever, mild headache, weakness and loss of appetite (occurring approximately 24-36 hours before onset of rash), please keep them home for observation. Observe for tiny clear blisters with redness around edge that will form a crust or scab. It will start on the abdomen, back, scalp, face, chest, and spread to the extremities. Call your health care provider if you think that your child has chickenpox. Consult with your health care provider for treatment. Do not give aspirin for treatment, may cause Reyes Syndrome. Complications are more common in those who have a weakened immune system from an illness or medicines like chemotherapy. Women who are pregnant and newborns are also at risk. Prevention is best with vaccine. The varicella (chickenpox) vaccine is part of the routine immunization schedule. Heath information Dear Parents,
As of 7-26-09 our state legislature has repealed the mandate to screen all public school children for scoliosis. Since School Nurses will no longer be screening students I wanted to send you an update on identification of scoliosis. If you have any concerns about your child please call me and I will be happy to screen your child and make the appropriate referral to a Licensed Health Care Provider as needed. Scoliosis of the spine is an abnormal curve of the spine with a rotational deformity. This means that the spine turns on its axis like a corkscrew. Most scoliosis goes undetected and does not cause any problems. Occasionally scoliosis is bad enough that bracing or surgery is indicated. The symptoms of scoliosis are uneven musculature on one side of the spine. This may look like a rib hump, a prominent shoulder blade, one shoulder being higher than the other or an uneven hip. Pain is occasionally considered a symptom of scoliosis. Most symptoms of scoliosis are picked up by parents or during a well-child visit. If you have any concerns that your child may have scoliosis please call your school nurse. Department Files
